IEA: Workshop on Intelligent Environmental Applications

  |   Workshops   |   No comment

The tremendous growth of computer and network technologies the last decade allowed for the realization of special applications with respect to the environment, previously unforeseen. The implementation of small, cheap, easily deployable and computationally powerful computer and network system (e.g., sensors), allowed for their deployment in a diversity of physical environments (forests, sea, buildings, etc.) aiming at specific parameters of environmental interest (temperature, seismic activity, etc.). Particular areas of interest of the Intelligent Environmental Applications workshop include: agriculture information technologies, smart farming, precision agriculture, disease detection, natural resource management.

Background and Goals

The research efforts in the area range from developing suitable systems for environmental aspects to the study/analysis of the obtained results. Several issues arise from the necessity of autonomous and of prolonged lifetime networked systems in remote areas that need to efficiently operate in the face of battery supply limitations, data collection strategies and system failures. Furthermore, the analysis of the obtained data is a challenging one since there is a need to incorporate the idiosyncrasies of the underlying system.

The aim of this Workshop is to highlight issues with respect to environmental applications of computer and network systems ranging from system aspects, deployment methods, operation protocols, data collection strategies, compressing algorithms to the analysis of the obtained data, identification of precursor patterns, prediction models and risk assessment. Submissions are encouraged to highlight the particularities of the underlying system and how they affected their designs or analysis process
